Classical meaning
lies and earning some gains, becauseAllah says: “ Who gives ear (to the devils and they pour what they mayhave heard of the Unseen from the angels), and most of them areliars. ” [Al - Shu ’ ara ’ 26:223] The eavesdropper may be harmed by a man of authority, becauseAllah says: “ Except him (devil) who steals the hearing then he is pursuedby a clear flaming fire. ” [Al - Hijr 15:18] If a merchant dreams that he is listening, he will try to get out of asale contract; if he is in a position of authority, he will be dismissed,because Allah says: “ Verily, they have been removed far from hearing it. ” [Al - Shu ’ ara ’ 26:212] If he dreams that he is eavesdropping on a person, this is indicativeof scandal and exposure. If he dreams that he is eavesdropping on whatpeople say in order to follow the best thereof, he will have glad tidings,because Allah says: “Those who listen to the Word [good advice Laa ilaaha illAllah(none has the right to be worshipped but Allah) and IslamicMonotheism] and follow the best thereof (i.e. worship Allah Alone,repent to Him and avoid Taaghoot) those are (the ones) whom Allahhas guided and those are men of understanding.”[Al-Zumar 39:18] If he dreams that he is listening but pretending that he is not listening,he will tell lies, because Allah say s: “ Woe to every sinful liar who hears the Verses of Allah (being)recited to him, yet persists with pride as if he heard them not. ” [Al - Jaathiyah 45:7 - 8]
